Located just 8.5 miles from Ann Arbor, Michigan, one of the world’s leading research centers, and just 45 minutes from Detroit’s Metropolitan Airport, Dexter Research Center provides easy access to a rich intellectual infrastructure surrounded by pristine natural beauty and more than 20 excellent golf courses. In addition to the University of Michigan and 500 technology companies in the area, Ann Arbor offers fine restaurants, galleries, museums, cafes, and coffee houses along Main Street and throughout the town.

Yes, nearby Ann Arbor is nice. Yet our home town of Dexter, Michigan ain’t too shabby either.

Michigan’s premier half-marathon event, the annual Dexter-to-Ann Arbor Run and 10K run and fitness walk, passes our front door. Push a fine road bicycle out of our facility and you are presented with one of the best bicycle touring venues anywhere, with a nine-mile ride to the east along the Huron River or an up to 100-mile ride to the west and north through woods and rolling farm country.

If mountain biking is your preferred recreation, the Pottowattomi Trail, just 10 miles northwest of Dexter, is one of the top ten riding trails in the U.S.. Ten miles to the east is one of the Midwest’s best rowing venues at Ann Arbor’s Argo Pond, on the Huron River.

For summer picnics or fall color, a Huron-Clinton Metro Park is just down the road. It’s a fine place for viewing the many hot air balloons that traverse the skies through the warmer months. And in fall, the historic Dexter Cider Mill commences its apple press operations.

More than 50 lakes surround Dexter, many interconnected by channels, offering superb water sports, including sailing, hang gliding, swimming, diving, and water skiing. Indeed, the canoeist or kayaker need only cross the road in front of our door to take a scenic paddle.
